Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Files Remote application (the "Application") for desktop computers and mobile devices, created by NTWIND LLC ("NTWIND", "we", "us", or "Service Provider").
1. Information We Collect and Use
Files Remote is designed for local-network access to folders explicitly shared by a Mac or Windows computer. The Application does not require an account, does not use advertising, does not use tracking SDKs, and does not operate a cloud service for uploading, storing, or relaying your files between your devices.
Local Use
When you use the Application, settings and operational data are stored locally on your devices. We do not receive, store, or access this local-only data unless you choose to send it to us, for example in a support request.
Depending on your device, settings, permissions, and the features you use, the Application may access, generate, store, cache, or exchange the following information locally or between your paired devices:
- Device information: device name, device type, device model, operating system, app version, and local network address.
- Network information: local IP address, network port, nearby-device discovery information, Bonjour/mDNS or multicast discovery information, and connection status.
- Pairing and security information: trusted-device records, certificates and fingerprints, security credentials, receiver-local Read and Write permissions, pairing state, upload session identifiers, and temporary authorization tokens.
- Shared-folder information: folders selected on a Mac or Windows host, locally stored paths or macOS security-scoped bookmarks, custom root labels, opaque shared-root identifiers, and folder availability state.
- File and folder information: relative paths, names, types, sizes, modification dates, MIME types, directory contents, thumbnails, selection state, and other metadata needed to browse and manage shared items.
- File content: files you download, upload, save, share, or open; temporary transfer content; generated thumbnails; and locally cached copies used to complete the action you request.
- Transfer and activity information: source and destination devices, shared root and relative folder, transfer progress, conflict choices, completion state, safe error details, and local History records for downloads, saves, uploads, folder creation, renames, deletions, and locally opened files.
- App data: device list, edited device names, hidden-device preferences, shared-folder configuration, local settings, and diagnostic or network log information.
We use this information to discover and pair nearby devices, authenticate encrypted local requests, show approved shared folders, list and sort folder contents, download and upload selected files, perform authorized file-management actions, display transfer progress, maintain local History, and troubleshoot connection or file-operation problems.
Support Requests
If you contact us for support, you may choose to provide your email address, diagnostic details, screenshots, logs, device information, or other information in your message. Support materials could contain file or folder names, paths, device names, local addresses, or other details visible in the Application. We use support information to respond to your request, troubleshoot issues, improve the Application, protect against abuse, and maintain support and business records.
2. Shared Folder, File, and Media Access
On Mac and Windows, Files Remote accesses only the folders you explicitly add as shared roots, plus local files you choose for upload or download actions. A shared root remains subject to your operating-system account, filesystem permissions, security software, available storage, and volume state. On macOS, the Application may store a security-scoped bookmark so it can reopen a selected shared folder.
Paired readers with Read permission can view folder listings and file metadata and can request file content. Readers with Write permission can also request creation of folders, file uploads, renames, and deletions inside shared roots. The host validates each request against its current pairing, permissions, root boundary, and filesystem state.
On Android and iOS, Files Remote can access files, images, or videos you select for upload as permitted by you and the operating system. Cloud-backed items may be downloaded or materialized by the operating system or storage provider before the Application can upload them. Received files may be passed to the system gallery, Downloads location, Share sheet, or another app when you choose those actions.
You are responsible for the folders and files you share, select, transfer, save, open, rename, or delete and for the privacy policies, account settings, network use, and data handling of Apple, Google, Microsoft, or any other storage provider, operating-system service, or destination app you use.
3. Local Network Communication and File Transfer

During a download, the host streams selected file content to the reader. During an upload, the reader streams selected content to a temporary file inside the validated destination folder; the host exposes the final file only after a successful transfer and save. Temporary downloads, upload staging files, thumbnails, and operating-system caches may remain locally until the Application or operating system removes them.
Files Remote uses opaque shared-root identifiers and relative paths in remote requests. These controls reduce unnecessary path disclosure but do not replace your responsibility to pair trusted devices, choose appropriate shared roots, and secure the devices and network involved.
Because Files Remote is a local-network application, your router, operating system, firewall, VPN, internet service provider, network-attached storage provider, or network administrator may process network traffic according to their own settings and policies.
4. Third-Party Services
The Application does not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not sell personal information.
The Application may be distributed through third-party app stores and platforms. Those providers may process information according to their own privacy policies:
If you select a cloud-backed file or media item, that storage provider may process requests and file data according to its own privacy policy. If you visit NTWIND websites, download updates, or contact support, your browser, email provider, hosting provider, anti-spam provider, or other infrastructure providers may process standard technical information needed to provide those services.
5. Data Sharing
We do not automatically receive your files, shared-folder paths, folder listings, file metadata, paired-device records, local IP addresses, transfer history, or permission settings.
Folder information, file metadata, file content, and operation requests are shared only with the paired devices participating in the action, as needed to provide the feature you request. A file you save, share, or open may also be provided to the operating system, a destination app, or a storage provider that you select.
We share information with other parties only as needed to provide and protect the Application, respond to support requests, operate our websites and communications, comply with law or legal process, prevent abuse or security incidents, or enforce our rights. We do not share your local Files Remote data with advertisers or data brokers.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Local-only data remains on your device until you remove shared roots or paired devices, clear History, clear Application data or caches, reset settings where available, delete transferred copies, or uninstall the Application. Old History records may also be removed automatically according to the configured history depth.
Removing a shared root from Files Remote removes the Application's saved access to that root; it does not delete the original folder or its contents. Removing a paired device deletes that device's local pairing record on the device where you remove it; the other paired device may keep its own local record until removed there as well. Clearing History removes the activity record, not the original file or a copy you already saved.
A deletion requested through Files Remote changes the host filesystem. Depending on the host setting and volume capabilities, an item may be moved to Trash or Recycle Bin or permanently deleted after the applicable confirmation. Recovery, retention, and permanent removal then depend on the host operating system and filesystem.
Uninstalling the Application removes local app data according to your operating system's uninstall behavior, but it does not remove original files in shared folders, files already saved to Downloads or a gallery, items stored by other apps, or files remaining in Trash or Recycle Bin.
Support emails and related correspondence are retained as long as reasonably needed to respond to your request, maintain support records, protect against abuse, comply with legal obligations, and maintain business records.
7. Security
Files Remote is built for trusted local networks. Devices must be paired before remote browsing, local requests between paired devices are encrypted, device certificates are pinned after pairing, and hosts store and enforce Read and Write permissions. Shared roots use opaque identifiers, filesystem operations are constrained to approved roots, and upload sessions use temporary authorization.
You should share only necessary folders, pair only devices you own or trust, grant Write permission only when needed, remove old pairings, keep your devices and operating systems updated, and use Files Remote only on networks you trust.
No method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, especially on networks, devices, filesystems, storage providers, app stores, or operating systems outside our control.
8. Children's Privacy
The Application is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] so we can take appropriate action.
9. International Processing
If you contact us, visit our website, download updates, or use platform services, information related to those activities may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States or other locations where we or our service providers operate. By using the Application, you understand that such information may be transferred to and processed in those locations, subject to applicable law.
10. Your Choices
You may use Files Remote without an account. On a host, you may choose and remove shared roots, approve or reject pairings, grant Read only or Read & Write access, block new pairing requests, configure deletion behavior, and stop hosting by closing the Application or disabling background operation. On any device, you may remove pairings, clear History, manage file or media access through operating-system settings, delete local copies, or uninstall the Application.
You may choose not to send diagnostic details, screenshots, or logs to us when contacting support, but that may limit our ability to troubleshoot your issue.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Privacy Policy on this page and update the effective date. Your continued use of the Application after the updated Privacy Policy is posted means you accept the updated policy.
